Toho subsidiary Toho International plans to make a strategic investment in a U.S.-based film and television studio owned by South Korea’s CJ ENM.
Toho International intends to invest $225 million in CJ ENM Fifth Season and take a 25% ownership stake, making Fifth Season an equity-method investment of Toho, the Japanese entertainment company said Monday.
The investment is an important step for Toho to expand into the global market in the live-action content business, following the animation content business that Toho has been developing on a global scale, the company said.
Toho and CJ ENM have started to consider the possibility of collaboration, including joint development and production of content, and mutual use and remake of intellectual property owned by both parties, the Japanese company said.
