Gabon’s Minister of Mines Herve Patrick Opiangah said the country won’t increase its yearly production of manganese.
On Wednesday, local media reported that Comilog–a subsidiary of French mineral giant Eramet, aims to increase production to between 8 million and 10 million metric tons from next year.
“The production of manganese isn’t supposed to exceed the limit of 8 million tons per year, Opiangah said Tuesday.
In September, the company said it expects to produce 7.5 million tons of manganese in 2023.
In Gabon, manganese contributes about 6% to the country’s GDP.
