Airbus agreed to acquire U.S. aerospace company Aerovel for an undisclosed sum as part of plans to expand its unmanned aerial system business.
The European aircraft manufacturer said Monday that its helicopter unit had signed an agreement to acquire the Bingen, Washington-based company.
“This strategic acquisition aligns with our vision to expand our UAS offering and respond to a growing customer demand worldwide for additional mission capabilities such as manned-unmanned teaming,” said Bruno Even, chief executive of Airbus Helicopters.
The acquisition remains subject to regulatory approvals and other customary conditions, and is expected to close this year.
