SunCoke Energy named Katherine Gates as its next chief executive officer, effective May 15.

The Lisle, Ill.-based company, which produces coke used in steelmaking, said that CEO Michael Rippey intends to retire the same day. Rippey has served as CEO since December 2017.

Gates, 47, joined the company in February 2013 and has served as a member of the board and president since Jan. 1, 2023.

SunCoke said in a regulatory filing that Gates would receive a salary of $900,000, and will be eligible for a non-equity incentive target of 100% of her base salary.
