The Federal Aviation Administration has grounded flights headed to New York’s Laguardia Airport as the smoke from the Canadian wildfires impacts visibility.
Flights at Newark Liberty International Airport also were experiencing delays Wednesday, according to the FAA.
In a statement emailed to Barron’s, the FAA said that it has “taken steps to manage the flow of traffic into the New York City area due to reduced visibility from wildfire smoke.” The FAA added that flights bound for LaGuardia have been paused and flights to Newark Airport have been slowed.
These delays come as wildfires burned in the Canadian province of Quebec. Smoke from the flames have moved south, carrying toxic air throughout the East Coast that has caused what looks to be foggy skies.
