Stocks Poised to Open Higher

U.S. stocks are poised to open higher on Monday, ahead of the busiest week of second-quarter earnings plus the latest U.S. jobs data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

At 6:19 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures gained 32 points, or 0.1%, while the S&P 500 futures gained 0.1%, and Nasdaq Composite futures gained 0.2%.

Crude oil futures (West Texas Intermediate, the U.S. standard) fell 0.2% to $80.47 a barrel. Brent crude, the international standard, fell0.2% to $84.28 a barrel.

This week, 170 S&P 500 companies report results, including: Arista Networks, AvalonBay Communities, ON Semiconductor, Republic Services, Welltower, and Western Digital on Monday.

Advanced Micro Devices, BP, Caterpillar, Ecolab, Devon Energy, Eaton, Electronic Arts, Marriott International, Merck, Pfizer, Pioneer Natural Resources, Rockwell Automation, Starbucks, and Uber Technologies report results on Tuesday.

Albemarle, Clorox, CVS Health, DuPont, Emerson Electric, Equinix, Humana, Kraft Heinz, McKesson, Occidental Petroleum, PayPal Holdings, Phillips 66, Qualcomm, Shopify, and Simon Property Group report earnings on Wednesday.

Airbnb, Alibaba Group Holding, Amazon.com, Amgen, Apple, Booking Holdings, Cigna Group, ConocoPhillips, Expedia Group, Gilead Sciences, Intercontinental Exchange, Kellogg, Moderna, Motorola Solutions, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Southern Co., Stryker, and Warner Bros. Discovery report earnings on Thursday; and Cboe Global Markets, Dominion Energy, and LyondellBasell Industries report on Friday.

This week’s notable economic events include: On Monday, the Institute for Supply Management releases its Chicago Business Barometer for July.

On Tuesday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics releases the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey of job openings, hires, and separations for June, and the Institute for Supply Management releases its manufacturing purchasing managers index for July.

On Wednesday, ADP releases its National Employment Report for July. On Thursday, the ISM releases its services purchasing managers index for July.

On Friday, the BLS releases the jobs report for July, including nonfarm payrolls, average hourly earnings, and the unemployment rate.
