U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 1.16%

© Reuters. U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 1.16%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the rose 1.16%, while the index gained 0.90%, and the index added 0.61%.

The best performers of the session on the were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:), which rose 3.97% or 9.66 points to trade at 252.94 at the close. Meanwhile, Boeing Co (NYSE:) added 2.97% or 6.88 points to end at 238.24 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:) was up 2.41% or 4.08 points to 173.12 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:), which fell 1.73% or 3.14 points to trade at 178.85 at the close. 3M Company (NYSE:) declined 0.27% or 0.28 points to end at 105.23 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:) was down 0.26% or 0.09 points to 32.53.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Monster Beverage Corp (NASDAQ:) which rose 6.13% to 58.49, Booking Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 5.87% to settle at 3,243.01 and Carnival Corporation (NYSE:) which gained 5.13% to close at 18.04.

The worst performers were Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 6.46% to 101.20 in late trade, Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE:) which lost 3.83% to settle at 54.30 and Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 3.25% to 135.45 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were VistaGen Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 676.79% to 13.05, Save Foods Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 143.75% to settle at 1.56 and Nektar Therapeutics (NASDAQ:) which gained 91.51% to close at 1.02.

The worst performers were Sage Therapeutic (NASDAQ:) which was down 53.60% to 16.75 in late trade, Tivic Health Systems Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 37.24% to settle at 0.05 and Aceragen Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 34.32% to 0.49 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1825 to 1104 and 75 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1963 fell and 1576 advanced, while 114 ended unchanged.

Shares in Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; down 6.46% or 6.99 to 101.20. Shares in Booking Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to all time highs; up 5.87% or 179.85 to 3,243.01. Shares in Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.25% or 4.55 to 135.45. Shares in VistaGen Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to 52-week highs; up 676.79% or 11.37 to 13.05. Shares in Sage Therapeutic (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; down 53.60% or 19.35 to 16.75. Shares in Aceragen Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 34.32% or 0.26 to 0.49.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 7.78% to 15.77.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.26% or 5.05 to $1,971.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.37% or 0.31 to hit $82.51 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.46% or 0.40 to trade at $85.84 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.10, while USD/JPY rose 0.53% to 142.51.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 101.90.
