Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the rose 0.15%, while the index added 0.03%, and the index added 0.12%.

The best performers of the session on the were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:), which rose 4.85% or 4.24 points to trade at 91.73 at the close. Meanwhile, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:) added 1.17% or 0.40 points to end at 34.68 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:) was up 1.15% or 2.37 points to 208.23 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:), which fell 0.62% or 2.14 points to trade at 340.55 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:) declined 0.60% or 0.66 points to end at 109.03 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:) was down 0.52% or 0.89 points to 172.18.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:) which rose 4.85% to 91.73, VF Corporation (NYSE:) which was up 3.76% to settle at 19.98 and Fleetcor Technologies Inc (NYSE:) which gained 3.30% to close at 268.61.

The worst performers were Tapestry Inc (NYSE:) which was down 15.91% to 34.68 in late trade, General Motors Company (NYSE:) which lost 5.78% to settle at 34.16 and Ralph Lauren Corp Class A (NYSE:) which was down 4.79% to 122.34 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Science 37 Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 42.09% to 0.59, TOMI Environmental Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 29.54% to settle at 0.92 and Edible Garden AG Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 29.41% to close at 1.54.

The worst performers were Galera Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 83.93% to 0.36 in late trade, Amyris Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 80.75% to settle at 0.07 and Origin Materials Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 66.40% to 1.46 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1609 to 1309 and 79 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1818 fell and 1681 advanced, while 126 ended unchanged.

Shares in Fleetcor Technologies Inc (NYSE:) rose to 52-week highs; rising 3.30% or 8.57 to 268.61. Shares in Galera Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 83.93% or 1.88 to 0.36. Shares in Amyris Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; down 80.75% or 0.28 to 0.07. Shares in Origin Materials Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 66.40% or 2.88 to 1.46.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.69% to 15.85.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.24% or 4.75 to $1,945.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.81% or 1.53 to hit $82.87 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.32% or 1.16 to trade at $86.39 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.10, while USD/JPY rose 0.73% to 144.77.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 102.47.
