Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk said it has paused all journeys through in the Red Sea until further notice after a spate of attacks on vessels in the area.
The company said the decision comes after a near-miss incident involving its Maersk Gibraltar ship on Thursday and another attack on a container vessel on Friday.
“We are deeply concerned about the highly escalated security situation in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The recent attacks on commercial vessels in the area are alarming and pose a significant threat to the safety and security of seafarers,” it said.
Yemen’s Houthi forces have attacked several commercial ships in the region in recent days.
