Markel Group has tapped Mike Heaton, executive vice president, to take over as chief operating officer.
The provider of specialty insurance said Monday that Heaton’s expanded role will have him overseeing day-to-day operations. Heaton previously served as president of Markel Ventures from 2016 to 2022 and was the subsidiary’s chief operating officer before that.
Chief Executive Tom Gayner said he has had Heaton at his side for close to two decades.
Markel said last fall that then-operating chief Bob Cox would be stepping down at the end of the year.
