Norway’s TECO 2030 said Monday that it is part of a consortium that has been granted European Union funding of 13.5 million euros ($15 million) to build and demonstrate a passenger ferry powered by TECO 2030 fuel cells.
The funding, granted under the EU’s Horizon Europe research and innovation scheme, amounts to EUR2.3 million for TECO 2030.
The consortium consists of 14 partners from seven European countries covering the whole value chain, including technology developers, academic institutions, maritime engineering, class society, digital transformation and a shipyard.
It aims to develop the full hydrogen infrastructure for a 35-meter, 300 passenger capacity hydrogen-powered vessel that will be operated in southern Europe.
TECO 2030 expects the grant preparation process to be finalized later this year, with the project start date seen around January 2024.
