According to a report by The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, DoorDash (NASDAQ:) has been warning customers that if they don’t tip the delivery driver, they may end up waiting longer for their meal to arrive.
DoorDash spokeswoman Jenn Rosenberg told the WSJ that the food ordering platform has been testing sending an alert to customers for a few months.
The alert reportedly states that “Dashers can pick and choose which orders they want to do.” The company refers to its delivery drivers as dashers. In addition, it says that “orders that take longer to be accepted by Dashers tend to result in a slower delivery.”
Rosenborg told the WSJ that the company will be analyzing the results and feedback. She also stated that delivery drivers are able to see what tips customers leave, and orders that don’t include a tip are more likely to be seen as less desirable.
