CHARLESTON, WV – T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS) has made a $200 million investment in West Virginia’s mobile infrastructure, significantly enhancing 5G and 4G LTE coverage throughout the state. This development was spotlighted at a press event at the West Virginia State Capitol today, featuring Governor Jim Justice and T-Mobile executive Edwige Robinson.

The investment has led to the installation of 377 new towers and the upgrade of 121 existing ones. As a result, 100% of federal highways in West Virginia now have T-Mobile 5G service. Additionally, 90% of the state’s population has access to T-Mobile’s 5G, marking a 30% increase over two years, and 70% can utilize Ultra Capacity 5G, which offers median download speeds of 99.98 Mbps—41% faster than in 2021.

The state, known for its challenging topography and low population density, has seen a 66% increase in median download speeds from 2022 to 2023, indicating a notable improvement in connectivity. This progress follows T-Mobile’s merger with Sprint in 2020 and subsequent acquisition of Shentel Wireless in 2021, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing internet connectivity in rural America.

T-Mobile’s 5G High-Speed Internet service is now an option for 400,000 homes in West Virginia, providing an alternative to traditional broadband with no annual contracts or hidden fees. The service aims to offer a fast and reliable internet connection that is easy to set up. In addition to residential services, T-Mobile has also tailored business internet solutions for statewide enterprises.

Counties such as Barbour, Braxton, Marion, Monroe, Nicholas, Summers, Upshur, Webster, and Wyoming are among those reaping immediate benefits from the introduction of 5G.

T-Mobile’s nationwide 5G network is reported to be the largest and fastest in the country, covering more than 330 million people across two million square miles. According to third-party experts at Ookla, T-Mobile is the fastest provider in West Virginia based on Q4 2023 data.
