Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the lost 1.01% to hit a new 1-month low, while the index declined 0.64%, and the index declined 0.18%.

The best performers of the session on the were Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:), which rose 0.74% or 2.28 points to trade at 311.74 at the close. Meanwhile, Salesforce Inc (NYSE:) added 0.60% or 1.23 points to end at 204.56 and International Business Machines (NYSE:) was up 0.08% or 0.10 points to 123.46 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nike Inc (NYSE:), which fell 2.80% or 3.35 points to trade at 116.48 at the close. 3M Company (NYSE:) declined 2.47% or 2.48 points to end at 98.01 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:) was down 2.42% or 5.65 points to 227.88.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 4.19% to 101.48, Alphabet Inc Class C (NASDAQ:) which was up 2.68% to settle at 120.09 and Alphabet Inc Class A (NASDAQ:) which gained 2.57% to close at 119.51.

The worst performers were Caesars Entertainment Corporation (NASDAQ:) which was down 6.89% to 41.38 in late trade, Gen Digital Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 5.79% to settle at 15.46 and Newell Brands Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 5.71% to 8.75 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Exela Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 103.90% to 6.28, Applied Blockchain Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 78.92% to settle at 6.11 and Missfresh Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:) which gained 50.29% to close at 0.82.

The worst performers were Ohmyhome Ltd (NASDAQ:) which was down 79.44% to 6.35 in late trade, OncoSec Medical Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 33.80% to settle at 0.55 and Modular Medical Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 32.00% to 0.85 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2356 to 611 and 71 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2477 fell and 1121 advanced, while 128 ended unchanged.

Shares in Gen Digital Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 3-years lows; down 5.79% or 0.95 to 15.46. Shares in Newell Brands Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 5-year lows; losing 5.71% or 0.53 to 8.75. Shares in 3M Company (NYSE:) fell to 5-year lows; losing 2.47% or 2.48 to 98.01. Shares in Applied Blockchain Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to 52-week highs; up 78.92% or 2.69 to 6.11. Shares in OncoSec Medical Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 33.80% or 0.28 to 0.55. Shares in Modular Medical Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 32.00% or 0.40 to 0.85.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 5.08% to 17.99.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.47% or 29.65 to $1,993.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.75% or 0.53 to hit $70.58 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.82% or 0.62 to trade at $74.61 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.19% to 136.37.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 102.46.
