© Reuters. U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.09%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the fell 0.09%, while the index climbed 0.45%, and the index added 1.04%.

The best performers of the session on the were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:), which rose 1.80% or 3.63 points to trade at 204.81 at the close. Meanwhile, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:) added 1.73% or 5.31 points to end at 312.31 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:) was up 1.04% or 1.78 points to 173.55 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were American Express Company (NYSE:), which fell 3.06% or 4.70 points to trade at 148.68 at the close. Chevron Corp (NYSE:) declined 1.30% or 2.07 points to end at 157.05 and Nike Inc (NYSE:) was down 1.27% or 1.59 points to 123.51.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Akamai Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 8.44% to 85.54, Signature Bank (OTC:) which was up 8.33% to settle at 0.13 and Illumina Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 7.84% to close at 209.49.

The worst performers were Under Armour Inc A (NYSE:) which was down 5.58% to 7.71 in late trade, Newell Brands Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 4.80% to settle at 9.51 and Under Armour Inc C (NYSE:) which was down 4.67% to 7.04 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were CTi Biopharma Corp (NASDAQ:) which rose 85.27% to 8.93, iMedia Brands Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 82.50% to settle at 0.34 and Harbor Custom Development Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 80.08% to close at 8.59.

The worst performers were SeaStar Medical Holding Corp (NASDAQ:) which was down 39.69% to 1.17 in late trade, Mobiquity Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 35.36% to settle at 0.18 and SHENGFENG DEVELOPMENT Ltd (NASDAQ:) which was down 33.30% to 5.87 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1604 to 1315 and 118 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2011 rose and 1532 declined, while 177 ended unchanged.

Shares in Newell Brands Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 5-year lows; falling 4.80% or 0.48 to 9.51. Shares in Salesforce Inc (NYSE:) rose to 52-week highs; rising 1.80% or 3.63 to 204.81. Shares in Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:) rose to 52-week highs; up 1.73% or 5.31 to 312.31. Shares in CTi Biopharma Corp (NASDAQ:) rose to 5-year highs; up 85.27% or 4.11 to 8.93. Shares in SeaStar Medical Holding Corp (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 39.69% or 0.77 to 1.17.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.35% to 16.94.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.26% or 5.25 to $2,037.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.23% or 0.91 to hit $72.80 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.03% or 0.80 to trade at $76.64 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.21% to 1.10, while USD/JPY fell 0.64% to 134.35.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 101.23.
