Events: A four-day session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific begins in Bangkok to discuss accelerating climate action for sustainable development. One way to reduce food waste is by converting edible scraps into apparel: “Transforming Waste to Wonder: Exploration of Food-Inspired Fashion” is the title of a seminar at City University of Hong Kong.

Economic data: Japan issues April data on producer prices and machine tool orders. India releases its wholesale inflation data for April, while South Korea presents trade figures for the same month. China’s central bank is expected to announce its one-year medium-term lending facility rate, which stands at 2.75 per cent. Australia’s Westpac consumer sentiment report for May is published, while in New Zealand, the BNZ-BusinessNZ services activity index for April is out. The Philippines publishes March data on cash remittances.

Corporate data: Suzuki Motor presents full-year results, while Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group and Mizuho Financial Group, SMC, Konica Minolta, Kajima and Japan Post, among many others, issue fourth-quarter earnings. Kyocera, Yamaha Motor and Dentsu issue first-quarter results, as do Hong Kong’s CLP Holdings and Manila-based San Miguel.
