The UK has struck a deal to rejoin the EU’s Horizon research programme, according to officials in London and Brussels, in a move that will be welcomed by academics and businesses across Europe.
British government officials said an announcement of a deal for associate status with the €95.5bn programme was imminent.
Rishi Sunak, UK prime minister, has been personally involved in agreeing the details of the deal, which marks a further deepening of ties with Brussels under his government.
The UK left the programme in 2020 when it withdrew from the EU. Protracted disputes over Northern Ireland trade and its financial contribution had held up attempts to rejoin.
